About Bowls Bias
Built by a bowler. For bowlers.
Bowls Bias started as a frustration: choosing a set of bowls online was a maze of manufacturer spin, conflicting opinions, and pro-shop sales pressure. Nothing brought the brands together honestly, in plain English, with the buyer's interest in mind. So I built that.
Why I built this
If you've ever tried to pick bowls without a coach standing next to you, you already know the problem. Every brand says its bowls are the best. Pro shops push what's in stock. Internet forums argue. Manufacturer specs read like a chemistry lecture. And the only honest comparison — rolling them yourself — takes access most people don't have.
Bowls Bias is what I wished existed when I was buying my first set: every bowl in the catalogue, ranked against your game, with plain reasons. A glossary, a curve diagram, a sizing explainer. No affiliate kickbacks. No favourite brand. Just the data, the recommendations, and the community keeping me honest.
What we stand for
Independent and brand-neutral
We don't sell bowls. We don't take affiliate kickbacks. We don't favour brands. Every model on the site is compared on the same scale, and the only opinions we publish are the ones the community has signed off on.
Refined by real bowlers
Specs start from manufacturer data and get corrected by the community based on how each bowl behaves on a real green. Every spec correction is reviewed by a human before it changes the recommendations.
Built in Australia, useful anywhere
We're based in Australia, so we built this for Australian greens first. But we cover UK, EU and indoor surfaces too — if your game spans regions, so does ours.
Who's behind this
Hey — I'm David, a designer based in Australia and a club bowler for the last 10 years, currently playing Grade 6 pennants. I'm a long-time board member at my club in the eastern suburbs and pretty involved in club life day-to-day.
My first set of bowls came from the internet, more or less at random — no real knowledge, just hoping for the best (they're all the same, right? Wrong). I got lucky; most people aren't. And every time I've gone looking for proper guidance on bowls — or on my latest endeavour, greens overseas — I've come away more confused. Manufacturer pages read like sales copy. Other bowlers push their favourites with little reasoning. No honest, brand-neutral place to compare.
So I built one. Bowls Bias is what I wish had existed every time I went looking. I hope it saves you the same headache. If you've got feedback, a correction, or just want to say hi, please drop me a line.
