Privacy policy

• Your email — required to create an account and log in. We use email-only authentication (one-time codes) so we never store passwords.
• Profile details you choose to add — name, club, achievements, the bowls you own. All optional and edited by you.
• Listings and messages — anything you publish to the marketplace or send to another bowler through our messaging.
• Quiz answers — saved anonymously and tied to a random ID stored in your browser. You can claim past sessions if you later sign in.
• Contact form messages — what you wrote, the email you supplied, and (if signed in) your user ID.
• Basic technical data— your browser's page requests, used by our hosting provider for performance and abuse prevention.

We don't ask for your address, phone number, date of birth or payment details. We don't run third-party advertising trackers and we don't sell, rent or trade your data to anyone.

• Run the site — show your bowls, listings, profile and quiz results to you and other users where you intend.
• Send transactional emails — magic-link sign-in, message notifications, listing replies.
• Improve the recommendations — anonymised quiz data helps us see what works and where the shortlist falls short.
• Reply to your contact form messages.

Your data is stored with Supabase (a managed Postgres provider) in their ap-southeast-2 region — Sydney, Australia. Email delivery uses Resend. Hosting is on Vercel, which may serve pages from regions other than Australia depending on where you connect from.

We use Vercel's built-in analytics for aggregate, anonymous visitor counts and page performance. It doesn't track you across sites and doesn't use third-party advertising cookies.

• Sign-in cookie— keeps you logged in. Set by Supabase, expires when you sign out or after a set period.
• Anonymous quiz ID— a random ID we generate in your browser's localStorage so your quiz feedback can be tied to a session without identifying you.
• We don't use third-party tracking cookies.

You can:

• See and edit your profile, bowls, listings and messages from your dashboard.
• Ask for a copy of your data — just contact us.
• Ask us to correct or delete data we hold about you.
• Delete your account at any time. We'll remove your profile, bowls and listings, although messages already sent to other users may persist.

Account data is kept as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your personal information is removed within 30 days, except for anonymised aggregates (quiz answers, feedback) that can no longer be tied to you.

We rely on Supabase and Vercel for infrastructure security. Inside the database we use row-level security policies so users can only read and write their own data. We can't guarantee against every possible attack, but we take this seriously and respond quickly to any reported issue.

Bowls Bias is intended for users 13 and older. If you believe a child has signed up, let us know and we'll close the account.

If we change how we handle data in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page and surface a notice to logged-in users.
